SOPA / PIPA and us …

We love the Internet, it continues to grow and weave itself ever deeper into our everyday lives — and we like it, we like what it brings to our lives, it gives us power to say anything we want and share anything we wish. So now we are hearing that SOPA and PIPA are swirling about and wow could have a real negative impact on OUR Internet.

So what is SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act) – (YouTubes most watched and liked video says ….)

Yes, piracy is bad but is SOPA/PIPA the answer and if so what will this mean to the core principles of the Internet and openness, what will be the aftermath??

So last Wednesday we saw some real online activism protesting these bills and it was coming from the big internet players like: Craiglist, Google, Mozilla, user-submitted news site Reddit, the blog Boing Boing, Wikipedia and more – The New York Times call this the “Political coming of age for the tech industry”.

AND

In the wake of these online protects on January 18, 2012, as of last Friday (January 20, 2012) the vote on PIPA and SOPA has been postponed

Time will tell ..

Gee I hope it was ok to post this YouTube video … and link to Michael Foley’s blog

LinkedIn Scores

We’re getting more active on LinkedIn, and in the spirit of healthy competition, I’ve started posting connection counts on the board in the conference room.

Not everyone’s playing, but Justin is in 3rd with 15, Trudy’s a little ahead with 21.

And our winner is …*drumroll*… Dave with 58.

Good work everyone, I’ll be at StartupCampWaterloo as always, plying business cards to widen my lead.
